  • The Independent Pilots Association, which represents more than 3,300 pilots at UPS, reached the deal with management in June for an extension including wage increases and pension improvements.
  • The union said nearly 91% of UPS pilots voted in favor of the agreement. Of those eligible, 97.1% participated in the ratification vote.
  • Before the polling, the pilots union’s leadership gave “an unqualified recommendation for ratification,” after its executive board unanimously approved and endorsed the deal.

Airlines Just Cut 34,000 US Flights Planned For November

KEY POINTS:

  • According to the latest schedule upload, 34,000 flights to, from, and within the USA in November have been removed. This is on top of previous reductions, and it's the latest month to see big changes.
  • It means that, this week alone, November flights have fallen by 4.4%, a loss of 3.4 million seats for sale. One airline was primarily responsible.
  • While 20 airlines have reduced their November plans for the US, it is enormously down to American Airlines, as shown below. It has cut nearly 29,000 services in its latest schedule filing. This week, American expects 155,770 November flights, according to Cirium. That's down from 184,577 planned last week and 195,659 at the start of April. Of course, many other airlines have been chopping their schedules, and will continue to do so.
  • American: November flights cut by 28,807 in the latest upload (-12.6%)
  • Delta: down by 4,396 (-3.3%)
  • United: reduced by 497 (-0.4%)
  • WestJet: down by 410 (-23.2%)
  • Frontier: reduced by 90 (-0.7%)

American Just Received First Boeing 787 Delivery Since FAA Suspended Deliveries

KEY POINTS:

  • American Airlines announced Wednesday that it had taken delivery of a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
  • This is the first 787 the airline has received this year, and the first Boeing has delivered since May 2021 after its rollout was halted due to a series of production flaws.
  • In 2020, the FAA confirmed the issues on 787 and effectively paused deliveries in October that year. However, Boeing was still able to deliver 14 jets by May 2021, including to United Airlines.
  • The pause left Boeing unable to deliver 120 jets, worth a collective $25 billion, and has been a long-term detriment on the aviation giant's cash flow, per the WSJ.
